#talents4climate / Klimawandel – Klimafittes Bauen
This is a school project, which is carried out with 6 educational institutions in the Climate- and Energy Model Region (CEM) ökoEnergieland (call for proposals "Talente Regional" - FFG). The aim is to bring the understanding of climate change and climate change adaptation into the life reality of young people. While climate change has so far mainly been discussed under the aspect of "climate protection", a second aspect is now becoming increasingly important, namely climate change adaptation. At COP21, adaptation was installed as the second pillar of climate policy alongside climate protection. Since this term still involves a great deal of uncertainty as to what adaptation actually means, the project mainly addresses this aspect. Climate change and adaptation take place in a very scientific-technical context. Due to a lack of experience in the field of adaptation, there is also a strong research character. The technical focus of the project will be "climate-friendly building & living". 6 educational institutions from the CEM ökoEnergieland in southern Burgenland will comprehensively integrate the areas of climate change and adaptation in #talents4climate within two school years. Special emphasis will be placed on learning and experiencing these aspects in a way that is appropriate to opportunities, since the educational institutions will integrate children with a migration background on the one hand and bilingual minorities (German/Croatian) on the other hand due to the proximity of the border. Furthermore, the project focuses on the inclusion of pupils with disabilities (participation of a special school) and on a target group-oriented preparation of the main topics. In addition, external gender monitoring by the Burgenland Directorate of Education throughout the project ensures that the pedagogical approaches also appeal to female pupils to a greater extent, so that young women become enthusiastic about science, technology and research. In addition to the holistic integration of the topics in the classroom, further learning and experiential approaches to the content will be implemented: Innovative learning concepts, workshops, lectures by experts, excursions and the implementation of adaptation measures (climate stations) directly at the educational institutions.
