Naturvielfalt-Kalender: Der Eichkogel im Wandel der Jahreszeiten
The "Eichkogel" near the town of Mödling is a nature reserve withing the European Natura 2000 network. The site supports a variety of habitats and especially species rich dry grassland. To stop invasion from trees and scrub, active measures are taken annually. Students and teachers of the secondary school "Bachgasse" in Mödling have been assisting with the management on a voluntary basis for several years. During the whole school year of 2020/21 one of the school classes (some 35 students) aimed to discover and take photographs of as many wild plant and animal species as possible, in a ralley to document the biodiversity of their surrounding. The students were assisted by a team of ecologists from naturschutzakademie.at. On Sept. 24th the students will present their results and experiences at a concluding semi-public event. The project is part of an Initiative launched by the federal government of Lower Austria which aims to support communities to explore, appreciate and help maintaining the biodiversity at their own Natura 2000 sites. Funding was provided by the federal government and the ELER funds. More Information and fotos: https://www.naturlandschaetze.at/moedling.
